Sweat loss, electrolytes and rehydration — here's how it fits together.

Every athlete has heard ‘hydrate more’ as recovery advice. It's true, but it's also incomplete — the details of what and how much matter more than the general idea.
The science, briefly
Along with fluid, sweat carries out sodium, potassium, and other electrolytes. Replacing water alone after heavy training can leave your electrolyte balance off, even if you don't feel obviously dehydrated.
IV rehydration delivers fluids and electrolytes directly into the bloodstream, which can be faster than drinking alone, especially after heavy fluid loss.
Hydration works alongside good training, sleep and nutrition as part of an overall recovery routine.
The bottom line
If you train hard in Texas heat, a post-workout hydration and electrolyte session is a reasonable addition to your recovery routine, alongside good training, sleep and nutrition.
