A plain description of what is in the bag and what happens while you are here.
Vitamin C is an obligate cofactor for the hydroxylase enzymes that build and stabilise collagen.
Zinc supports protein and DNA synthesis, cell division and wound healing; deficiency can present with skin lesions and hair changes.
Including biotin, a coenzyme for five carboxylases in fatty acid, glucose and amino acid metabolism.
Skin turnover takes weeks. Guests who see the most from this book it as part of a monthly rhythm alongside sleep, nutrition and sun protection.
The science
We would rather tell you where the evidence is strong, where it is thin, and where it simply does not exist yet.
Ascorbate is required by prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase to hydroxylate proline and lysine residues in procollagen. Hydroxylysine residues also anchor the covalent cross-links that give mature collagen its tensile strength — so vitamin C influences both collagen quantity and quality. Skin holds relatively high ascorbate concentrations.
NIH ODS says hair, skin and nail claims for biotin 'are supported, at best, by only a few case reports and small studies.' Benefit is documented in genuine deficiency, which is rare. Biotin supports normal keratin-related metabolism; strong evidence for cosmetic benefit in people who are not deficient is lacking.
Zinc is required for the catalytic activity of hundreds of enzymes, which is why deficiency shows up in skin and healing before it shows up anywhere obvious.
This is the single most clinically important thing on this page, and it is a genuine patient safety item rather than fine print.
Who commonly considers this: Adults interested in general skin, hair and nail support as part of a broader routine alongside sleep, sun protection and nutrition.
